Frequently Asked Questions

You may be feeling a little nervous or wishing you knew a bit more about what to expect - you are not alone! We see many people for their first round of pelvic floor PT, but we also see many people who have gone to another pelvic PT clinic before finding relief here at Fit For You. We don't want anyone saying "pelvic PT didn't work for me" or turning to a lifetime of medications or unnecessary surgery.

What if I’ve been to other pelvic floor therapy before and it didn’t help?

Just because pelvic floor therapy at another clinic didn't help, doesn’t mean pelvic floor PT won't work for you. It’s possible the approach or therapist you worked with wasn’t the right fit. At our clinic, we take a holistic, whole-body approach to address the root cause of your concerns and help you feel your best. We believe that no one can 'fail' pelvic floor therapy – if something isn't working, we adjust and fine-tune until it does!

Is my therapist specialized in pelvic health?

100% yes! Pelvic health is all that we do here and our PTs have advanced training in all things pelvic health! We have taken dozens of courses and have constant ongoing training to make sure we are providing the best care possible. Fun Fact (Not-so fun fact?): Anyone can call themselves a pelvic floor therapist and start treating after a single weekend course. So no matter where you end up, make sure to ask about your PT's training!

Will I see my PT for the full hour or be shared with an aide/assistant?

We highly value one-on-one care with your PT as pelvic floor issues are very complex. We do not use any aides or assistants like some clinics to ensure you are getting the highest level of care possible.

Will my sessions be in a private treatment room or a typical gym setting?

Your sessions will always take place in a private treatment room to ensure your comfort and peace of mind. We understand that pelvic health issues are deeply personal, and you deserve a space where you can discuss them without concerns about privacy or being overheard. Our clinic looks much different than a typical rehab gym space!

Does all pelvic floor PT involve internal treatment?

Our ability to perform internal assessments and treatments is what sets us apart from other generalized PT’s and are a key component of pelvic floor PT. With that being said, we will never ask you to do anything that you aren’t 100% comfortable with. We will also be doing an external, orthopedic exam and can combine this information with our advanced pelvic health knowledge to figure out what is going on.

Should I wait until after pregnancy to being pelvic floor PT?

No, you don’t need to wait until after pregnancy to begin pelvic floor physical therapy. In fact, starting during pregnancy can be incredibly beneficial. In fact, we have an entire pregnancy program! Pelvic floor therapy can help address pregnancy-related discomfort, prevent issues like leaking or pain, and prepare your body for delivery. By taking care of your pelvic health now, you’ll also be setting the stage for a smoother recovery postpartum.

Do I need to wait until my 6-week postpartum check up to begin pelvic floor PT?

No, you don’t need to wait until your 6-week postpartum check-up to begin pelvic floor physical therapy. In fact, starting earlier can help address any immediate discomfort, improve healing, and guide you through safe movements and exercises as your body recovers. We can provide gentle, appropriate care to support your postpartum recovery right away, ensuring you feel more comfortable and confident in your healing process. We have in-home visits available for the first 2 weeks postpartum, as well as virtual and in office visits starting at 2 weeks postpartum.

What if I have other questions?

That's totally normally! We will answer all of your questions when we speak.
